Passing of Our Dear Friend Tommy Bass

Tommy Bass was born August 31st, 1941 in Mount Calm, Texas.

Tommy was the first of three brothers born to Alford Lavon Bass and Doris LeNoir Bass, Jimmy (SAM) Bass, and Randal Alen Bass are his surviving brothers. They have been very close to him his entire life. He was raised in the Bryan/College Station area of Texas. Went to Allen Military Academy and was a sharp shooter in the ROTC. He attended Texas A&M University like his grandfather, Mr. LeNoir.

Tommy got married and moved to Virginia where he later worked in the ministries of Robert Barber and Jerry Falwell in Danville, Virginia where he was called to preach while he worked as a Loom Repair Man at Dan River Mills. His son, Robie Bass was born in Danville. Tommy and Becky moved to Arlington, Texas in 1969 where he attended the Bible Baptist Seminary (now Arlington Baptist College). He graduated magna cum laude, and was elected Student Body President his senior year in college. He and his best friend, Jay Conway, were miraculously called to the Mission Field on the same evening. Tommy to Australia, and Jay to Brazil. When the door closed to Australia, Tommy felt the Lord leading him to the island of Scotland. He would go on to start two churches in Scotland, and assist his brother missionaries in Germany. The churches Tommy founded are still in existence today. Tommy came back to the U.S. after years on the mission field, and continued in the Lord’s work by leading the singing at Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Lancaster, Tx. for F.E. Baughman, while he was the associate pastor. He then went on to pastor at Arlington Villa Senior Retirement Center where he worked with W.C. (Deacon) Brown, his father in law who led the singing for him. In 1982, Tommy was called to pastor Northside Baptist Church in Carrollton, TX. He pastored there until 1987, then very soon after started work at Creation Evidences Museum in Glen Rose, Texas, assisting Dr. Carl E. Baugh as the museum's first receptionist.

The remainder of his life, Tommy Bass worked with The Promise in Glen Rose, Tx. acting in (as he would say) nearly every part but Satan or Jesus himself.… For many years he taught a Sunday afternoon Bible Class in the home of Bob and Boo Summers, and was a soul winner for our Lord all of the days of his life.

Tommy leaves behind Anita Bass, his loving wife of over 22 years, his son, Robie Bass and wife Donna Lynn Bass and four Grandchildren with them, his daughter, Laura Bass Coleman and husband (Cowboy Troy) Coleman and four Grandchildren with them. He also leaves behind another four children, Debbie Cox, Douglass Cantrell, Andria Cantrell and Brenda Humbert. Tommy and Anita have a combined total of 18 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.

Tommy passed this life on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at the age of 76. He will be greatly missed by all… for now. This is not goodbye… this is only goodnight.
